Are German Soldiers Manning Leopard Tanks on the Battlefields of Ukraine?

Sept. 23, 2023, (EIRNS)—That would appear to be the case, if the story reported today by Sputnik is confirmed. According to their report, a Russian reconnaissance team (its moniker being “Legend”) discovered when examining a German-supplied Leopard tank deployed in a Ukrainian military operation in the direction of Zaporozhye which had been hit by a Russian missile: The crew of the tank were all members of the German Army.

Sputnik, citing the head of the reconnaissance team, reported that when the Russian soldiers reached the tank, all of the crew members were dead except the driver-mechanic, who was severely wounded. He started yelling “nicht schießen” [“do not shoot!”]. “The mechanic repeatedly stated that he was not a mercenary but a Bundeswehr serviceman, and that he and the rest of the crew were members of the same unit of the German army.” The soldier reportedly named his brigade and its dislocation site before he died shortly afterwards.

No official response to this explosive story has been found by EIR as of this evening.
