West Ruins Itself by Hanging on to Exploitation System, Polemicizes Lavrov

Sept. 1, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, today addressed students at the Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO), an institution that provides many of Russia’s diplomatic corps, and explained the curious position that they are to deal with, where the West was clinging to a unipolar world, clinging to their right to exploit other nations, causing a fundamentally unstable world. According to the transcript on the Foreign Ministry website, he said: “The West’s policies aimed at trying to slow down the course of history will only give rise to more confrontational situations and challenges for the international community. Diplomats will have to unravel all of that.”

He said that “It is the desire of the United States and its allies, whom they have ‘brought to heel,’ to rule the world, to impose the unipolar order ... to continue to levy a tribute from humanity.” But many nations, including Russia, now are in active opposition to that, seeking a more just multipolar world order. He claimed that the transition is inevitable sooner or later, but “are trying to build obstacles to the development of regional processes, initiatives to form alternative payment mechanisms, so as not to depend on the whims of those who are now imitating reserve currencies.”

The use of financial sanctions by Washington has made the dollar unreliable as a world reserve currency, so it drives nations away. “President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that we do not want to “bury” the dollar; rather, Washington has ceased to ensure the role of the currency that everyone found acceptable,” he explained.
