Jeremy Hunt Claims Iran Is One Year Away from Getting a Nuclear Bomb

July 15, 2109 (EIRNS)—British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt told reporters in Brussels this morning that Iran is one year away from building an atomic bomb.

“Iran is still a good year away from developing a nuclear bomb. There is still some closing, but small, window to keep the deal alive,” he said, referring to the 2015 nuclear deal. An article in the July/August issue of Arms Control Today, the publication of the Arms Control Association, clarifies that Iran is 12 months away from having enough enriched uranium for one bomb; but that, in fact, does not pose an immediate risk that it would build one, contrary to the implication of Hunt’s inflammatory statement.

Hunt was in Brussels for an EU foreign ministers meeting at which the crisis around Iran and its nuclear program was to be the main topic of discussion.
