Hungary Blocks NATO Plans with Ukraine

April 24, 2018 (EIRNS)—The Hungarian government vetoed a planned session of the NATO-Ukraine Commission for the third time, as well as vetoing plans of the EU to deepen cooperation with Kiev, charging that the Kiev regime does not respect basic rights which are the foundation of the Western military alliance and the EU. Hungary also vetoed the invitation to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to the next NATO summit in July. Hungary’s complaints about repression of minority rights of the ethnic Hungarian community in Ukraine are shared by Romania, whose minority in Ukraine is suffering similar repression.
