Stern Magazine: ‘This is Why the West Needs “Far Away Brother Putin”’

May 21, 2016 (EIRNS)—The Hamburg weekly magazine Stern ran a story with the above headline this week, saying that lifting sanctions and cooperating with Putin was the only means to end the chaos in Syria and resolve the refugee crisis. "Vladimir Putin is more predictable, sociable and right-minded than the irrational Turk Recep Tayyip Erdogan," Stern wrote. "Angela Merkel got a clear idea about it in conversations with both of them."

They note that the deal with Turkey to stop the refugee flow is already falling apart, due to Erdogan’s irrational behavior. "There is a growing conviction in the West about Russia’s importance," they add. "In political sense it means quickly turning toward Putin, stopping the arms race in the East as well as putting an end to sanctions against Russia. At least partially."
