LaRouche: Anglo-Dutch Oil Cartel Drives Global Starvation
June 1, 2008 (EIRNS)—This release was issued on May 28 by the Lyndon LaRouche Political Action Committee (LPAC).
On the eve of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) emergency conference in Rome, there is clear evidence that the Anglo-Dutch oil cartel — the London-centered financial firms controlling the oil "spot market" and the handful of British-dominated "oil majors" — is driving the worsening "food price famine," which threatens millions with death in Third World countries at this moment.
With oil speculation exploding past $130/barrel, every component of food production is hyperinflating, from tractor fuel (doubled) to sulfur fertilizers (up 80%) to transport (up 80%), etc. But the cartels' crime is worse, as indicated in a pre-conference report published by the FAO today.
Spot oil and world corn prices both began an explosive rise in July 2007, continuing today. At each speculative spike in the oil price — in Sept.-Oct. 2007, February 2008, April, May — the corn price has jumped by a corresponding amount. The FAO reports that 30% of all U.S. corn production this year is going into ethanol production. The FAO's new charts are proving, simply, a globally deadly linkage: Each oil price spike produces a jump in the price of ethanol; and that, in turn, raises the breakeven price (with government ethanol subsidies) for buying corn to produce ethanol; and that pulls up the price for all corn sales. In turn, the oil-speculation-linked corn price pulls land out of wheat, soybeans, etc., and into growing corn; and thus drives up the prices of those other major food staples as well.
Already by the end of 2007, the result was demonstrations and riots in more than 30 countries, as sudden food staple shortages and doubled prices threatened millions with deprivation of their basic diets.
The Anglo-Dutch oil cartel is driving world starvation. Not just swindlers, the oil speculators are also potential mass murderers, heading towards killing more human beings than Hitler.
