Another Irish Union `No' to Lisbon Treaty

May 6, 2008 (EIRNS)— The nation's largest craft union, the Technical, Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU), has decided that fascism is not in their interest, and is now recommending a "No" vote to the referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. With this action, the union, which represents 45,000 members, becomes the second Irish trade union, joining the UNITE (tradesworkers), which came out against the Treaty last month. The TEEU decision was immediately welcomed by Sinn Fein, with spokeswoman Mary Lou McDonald saying, "Sinn Fein shares the TEEU's analysis that the Lisbon Treaty fails to address the biggest issue facing workers in Europe—protection of their rights and entitlements."
