FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UGANDAN OPPOSITION LEADER DEPORTED FROM SWEDEN TO UGANDA
FAMILY AND FRIENDS FEAR FOR HIS LIFE

Ugandan citizen Haji Wamboga, who had been living in Sweden since 1991 and who had applied for political asylum to the Swedish government, was deported back to Uganda today, Monday, March 3, from Stockholm. Haji Wamboga, who is the brother-in-law of a U.S. citizen, was picked up by the Swedish police Feb. 27, and held incommunicado from his sister and friends until he was put on a plane to Africa.

The Swedish authorities have refused to release information to his sister as to his exact whereabouts.

The Swedish authorities made this inhuman decision for deportation, although they knew that Haji Wamboga was a military resistance leader against the present Ugandan regime. Since 1991, Sweden refused to grant asylum to Wamboga, despite the fact that Wamboga was under threat of torture and execution in Uganda. Is the Swedish government lending its help to the elimination of an opposition figure in Uganda?

If anything happens to Haji Wamboga when he arrives back in Uganda, Britta Rydergard from the Swedish alien board who made the decision for deportation, and Ministr Pierre Schori, will be responsible.

We also will hold President Museveni of Uganda personally responsible for Haji Wamoga's safety.
